Safeguarding the Beautiful Beach for the Future – Beach Clean-Up in Nakagusuku –

On September 20, 2025, American Engineering Corporation (AEC) held a beach clean-up at Yoshinoura Park Beach in Nakagusuku Village, Okinawa.

The event was organized ahead of International Coastal Cleanup Day (September 22) with the generous support of Nakagusuku Village and in collaboration with the volunteer group gomisube.

About 55 volunteers—including AEC employees and their families—joined forces to collect litter, filling 52 bags plus larger items like fishing buoys and Styrofoam.

Our President also took part, working alongside participants and showing a shared commitment to protecting the local environment.

Volunteers commented: “I was surprised by the range of trash we found.” “Seeing the cleaner beach gave me a real sense of accomplishment.”

The clean-up not only improved the shoreline but also raised awareness of marine pollution and the importance of taking action together.

A Message from Takahide Tomoyose, Rep. of gomisube

“Interest in the SDGs and marine conservation has grown, but volunteer efforts alone have limits in tackling marine litter.

That’s why corporate involvement, like AEC’s, is so valuable—not only in cleaning beaches but also in raising awareness of Okinawa’s coastal challenges.

When employees join these efforts, they boost clean-up results and help reduce the impact on our oceans and marine life.

With more collaboration between companies and local groups, we can strengthen public interest and pass on our precious Churaumi (‘beautiful ocean’) to the next generation.”
