Supporting Diversity in Learning— AEC’s Enduring Partnership with the AmerAsian School in Okinawa

▲ At the ceremony, we were honored to welcome Mr. Masahiro Higa the principal of the AASO, who shared the school’s latest initiatives and future vision.

At American Engineering Corporation (AEC), we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow—no matter their background or the language they speak.

Guided by this belief, AEC has been a proud supporter of the AmerAsian School in Okinawa (AASO), a nonprofit school that empowers children from diverse cultural roots through bilingual and bicultural education.

Most recently, our support has contributed to improving the school’s learning environment and
ensuring that students have the tools they need to thrive.

AEC’s relationship with AASO spans over 20 years.

Where Two Worlds Come Together
Founded in 1998, AASO provides an inclusive space where English and Japanese meet in daily learning.

Through its unique “double immersion” program, students—many with American and Asian heritage—develop not only academic skills but also confidence, cultural awareness, and pride in who they are.

The school plays an important role in the local community, creating opportunities for children who may have faced barriers due to cultural or linguistic differences, and standing as a model of multicultural education in Okinawa.

More Than Two Decades of Shared Growth
The principal: Mr. Higa says “What began as a small school has grown into a vibrant community of nearly 100—from preschool through junior high—each child learning and connecting beyond cultural boundaries.

The continued support from AEC has helped enhance classrooms and facilities, creating a place where every student can feel safe, focus on learning, and discover their full potential.”

AEC remains committed to quietly standing behind the AASO and the children it nurtures— supporting their dreams and helping build a brighter, more inclusive future for our shared community.
